Talib Kweli Shuts Down Colt 45 Partnership
Apparently Talib Kweli isn't much of a Colt 45 fan.
After hearing news that the malt liquor brand was on board as a sponsor for his upcoming show at the Granada Theater in Kansas next week, the Brooklyn rapper quickly blocked the partnership.
"To my fans in Lawrence Kansas, the Granada Theater has partnered with Colt 45 without my knowledge to promote the show. We shut that down," Kweli Tweeted on Tuesday.
"So on 4-20 I will be at the Granada in Lawrence Kansas but Colt 45 is no longer involved in the show promo. Thank yall (fans) for alerting me."
Colt 45 recently announced Snoop Dogg as the company's newest spokesperson to promote their new fruit-flavored drink Blast. However, Snoop has come under fire for his affiliation with the beverage, as critics have slammed Colt 45 for targeting under aged drinkers with its fruit flavors.
In addition, Marin Institute CEO Lee Levingston is looking to ban Blast and other drinks.
"While the federal government was shutting down dangerous caffeinated alcohol, Pabst Brewing Company was cooking up 'Blast,' a super sweet, fruit-flavored, supersized alcopop containing as much alcohol as four and a half cans of beer," Levingston said.
"Joose, Four Loko, Tilt, and now Blast are racing to the bottom to harm youth. Senator Padilla's bill should limit such products to one standard-size drink."
With all the controversy surrounding Colt 45, Kweli obvious wants nothing to do with the alcoholic beverage, and who can blame him.
Kweli is currently on tour to promote his new album Gutter Rainbows.

Nate Dogg's home was foreclosed on March 11 just two days after his death because he allegedly failed to keep up with his mortgage payments while he was sick. The 41-year-old passed away on March 15 after a long battle with ill health, which included two debilitating strokes.
Dogg, real name Nathaniel Hale, hadn't made any mortgage payments on his Pomona, California property since December 2010, racking up a debt of $5,924, according to TMZ.com. Papers filed on March 17 suggest the house was seized just two days after the star's death.
After news of his sudden passing made media headlines, many Hip-Hop stars have paid tribute to the rapper. One of them was Snoop Dogg. He tweeted, "We lost a true legend n hip hop n rnb. One of my best friends n a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at poly high where we met."
Weeks later, the "Gin and Juice" rapper revealed he has made a tattoo sleeve of his late friend on his arm with the phrase "All Doggs go to Heaven" underneath. Along with the picture he shared on Twitter, he wrote, "Tha tattoo u been waitin 2 c. My bro Nate Dogg by @Misterctoons."
DJ Megatron has been shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday morning, March 27 near his home on Staten Island in New York City. The BET host and radio personality was pronounced dead at the scene with a single gunshot wound to the left side of his ribcage on Osgood Avenue in the Clifton section at about 2 A.M., police said.
A person who was in the area heard the gunshot and called 911. When the paramedics arrived, the 32-year old deejay was lying on the street with his eyes facing the sky and his head close to the curb. It is still unclear what led to the shooting. A police source said, "We don't know what the motive was. We don't know what preceded the incident, and we would love it if some witnesses came forward."
The Wall Street Journal reported that a person has told detectives she saw four to five men wearing hoodies fleeing toward Vanderbilt Avenue. It was unclear if the deejay was robbed since his cellphone was recovered at the scene.
His manager Justin Kirkland also said he had no idea who committed the crime considering the deejay was not a kind of man who will make enemies with people on the street. To the Associated Press, he said, "He was super-driven and was known for being a positive person. He was always laughing and smiling and looking for the best in people."
Since news of his tragic passing came out, many stars have expressed their condolences. Nicki Minaj wrote on Twitter, "Rest In Peace DJ Megatron. My thoughts are with your family and friends @ hot 97", while Terrence J tweeted, "Rip to DJ Megatron. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones, he will be deeply missed."
DJ Megatron leaves behind a wife and three children. In the wake of the deejay's death, his other manager Regg Rocc released a statement to E! News, "Mega's family is grateful for all of the condolences and warm thoughts of his fans and friends. Please continue to uplift your prayers of support as an ongoing investigation is currently being conducted by law enforcement officials."
