Toshiba to launch first glasses-free 3D TV

Toshiba will unveil three models of the television, which will cost several thousand dollars, before Christmas, the Yomiuri Shimbun said.
The company has developed a new system that emits a number of rays of light with various angles from the screen so that viewers can see stereoscopic images without glasses, the daily said.
"People can enjoy images in three dimensions from various positions and suffer less stress," it said.
Japan's major electronics makers launched 3D television this year, but sales have not been as strong as expected while many customers have complained of being irritated by the glasses.
However, a Toshiba spokeswoman said: "We are not in a position to make any announcement."

BAD NEWS! T-MOBILE DISCONNECTS SIDEKICK

T-Mobile is hanging up the Sidekick — literally.
The mobile phone provider recently confirmed to CNET that it plans to stop selling the 2 existing Sidekick models.
"As T-Mobile looks to further innovate and raise the bar for the next generation of the T-Mobile Sidekick, as of July 2, the Sidekick LX and Sidekick 2008 will no longer be available through T-Mobile, including retail stores, care, telesales and online," T-Mobile said in a statement.
Current Sidekick customers will still be supported and the company is suggesting that it's not done with the brand. "While we work on the next chapter of our storied Sidekick franchise, T-Mobile will continue to provide our loyal Sidekick customers with product service and support," T-Mobile said. "Stay tuned for exciting updates in the months ahead, which we expect will provide customers with a new and fresh experience."
Originally dubbed the Hiptop by Danger and sold under that brand by some other carriers, the Sidekick was among the first devices to combine Web browsing, instant messaging, email, and phone in a single device. The phones drew a loyal following with their flip-open screen, relatively large keyboard and good messaging software. However, the product failed to keep pace with other smartphones and suffered a major blow last year when a massive outage caused customers to lose data.

KELLOGG RECALLS FAVORITE CEREAL

Cereal maker Kellogg's is serving up the most important meal of the day with questionable results. For the 3rd time in less than a year the Kellogg Company has had to issue a recall. This time around the company recalled boxes of Corn Pops, Honey Smacks, Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks because of a funny smell emanating from cereal boxes.
"We apologize to our consumers and our customers and are working diligently to ensure that the affected products are rapidly removed from the marketplace," said David Mackay, President and CEO of Kellogg Company, in a statement.
Consumers reported "stale, waxy, metallic, and soap-like smells" from the tainted boxes, a Kellogg's spokesman told NPR.com. Anyone with a box of the tainted cereal should be on the look out for boxes that have "Better If Used By" dates between March 26, 2011 and June 22, 2011 which also have the letters "KN" after those dates.
Last year Kellogg's was called out by the Food and Drug Administration for exaggerating claims that Rice Krispies help support children's immunity. Then in February the FDA fined Kellogg's after finding listeria, a harmful bacterium usually used on mice, at a Georgia plant that makes Eggo Buttermilk waffles.
Until Kellogg's figures out the problem, cereal lovers may have to find other meal options to start off the day.

WOW! SOUTH AFRICAN DOCTOR INVENTS CONDOM TO PREVENTS RAPE

Inspired by a rape victim she encountered over 40 years ago, South African doctor Sonnet Ehlers has invented a female condom armed with sharp hooks to protect women from rape.
Jagged rows of teeth-like hooks line the inside of the condom and attach on a man's penis during penetration. The idea for the anti-rape device came from a woman Dr. Ehlers meet when she was a 20-year-old medical researcher.
"She looked at me and said, 'If only I had teeth down there,'" recalled Ehlers. "I promised her I'd do something to help people like her one day."
Dubbed the Rape-aXe, women insert the latex condom like a tampon. Ehlers is currently distributing the female condoms in the various South African cities where the World Cup soccer games are being played. She plans to distribute 30,000 free devices under supervision during the World Cup.
Once the device latches on to the penis it can only be removed by a doctor. The hope is that when a suspect arrives to have the condom removed he’ll be arrested.
"It hurts, he cannot pee and walk when it's on," she told CNN.com. "If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter... however, it doesn't break the skin, and there's no danger of fluid exposure."
To make sure the device was safe for women Ehlers said she spoke to countless experts.
"I consulted engineers, gynecologists and psychologists to help in the design and make sure it was safe," she said. "The ideal situation would be for a woman to wear this when she's going out on some kind of blind date... or to an area she's not comfortable with."
A mother of 2 daughters, Ehlers even visited prisons to get the input of convicted rapists. Many of them said such a device would make them think twice about committing a rape.
After the trial period, the condoms will be available for $2 a piece. She hopes that there will be plenty of feedback from women on the product.
