FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. UNDER ARREST FOR THEFT OF AN iPHONE

Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been arrested in Las Vegas on a felony theft charge stemming from a domestic violence complaint by his ex-girlfriend. Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell says the 33-year-old Mayweather was booked Friday at the Clark County jail on a grand larceny charge. He's being held on $3,000 bail. Mayweather's lawyer, Richard Wright, says the charge stems from an allegation that Mayweather took an iPhone from Josie Harris, his ex-girlfriend and mother of three of his children. Nevada law calls for a grand-larceny charge when the value of the goods in question is $250 or more. Harris made a police complaint and sought a protection order Thursday from a Family Court judge. She claims Mayweather hit her during a confrontation at her home in Las Vegas. Wright denies Mayweather committed any crime.

RON ARTEST WILL BE SELLING HIS CHAMPIONSHIP RING AND DONATING THE MONEY TO CHARITY!

The fact that Ron Artest(notes is promoting mental health in schools today is amazing in its own right. Considering Artest went from throwing medicine in the garbage to being a government-approved mental-health spokesman in a matter of years, he knows as well as anybody the effectiveness of seeking out help. If that were the end of Artest's foray into mental-health awareness, that would be more than enough.

But since that was only the first graph of a blog post, that's not the end of the story. And really, since it's Ron Artest, there should be no surprise that there's more. Here's the latest development, which just might be more surprising than Artest's school speaking adventure. From NBA.com's Scott Howard-Cooper:

Artest finally won a title in June after 11 regular seasons of trying ... and now he's planning to sell the championship ring as a fundraiser to put more psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists in schools.

"I'm never going to put it on," he said.

Artest plans to soon announce details of what he hopes will become a worldwide auction, and he takes possession of the jewelry in an Oct. 26 pre-game ceremony before the Lakers open against the Rockets. It's an incredible gesture. But it's even more meaningful as a statement.

"You work so hard to get a ring, and now you have a chance to help more people than just yourself, instead of just satisfying yourself," he said. "What's better than that? For me, this is very important."

Awesome? Awesome. No one was happier to win last year's title than Ron Artest, so to see him give up something that obviously means the world to him — just to help people — is really cool. Better than cool, actually. Splendid? Heartwarming? Delightful? No words, really, but let's go with "astonishing." Yeah, that fits.

NBA PLAYER MATT BARNES ARRESTED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!

Sacramento County authorities say Los Angeles Lakers guard Matt Barnes has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran says deputies arrested Barnes after responding to what was termed an incomplete 911 call from a home around 4:16 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say both Barnes and the woman had visible injuries, but took Barnes into custody after determining he had been the primary aggressor.

The name of the woman was not released, but she was described by authorities as "a woman who lived with him and with whom he had a dating relationship."

Barnes was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence and maliciously obstructing the use of a telephone line.

He posted a $50,000 bond and was released. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday.

Aaron Goodwin, Barnes' agent, reached in Turkey by ESPNLosAngeles.com, said in a text message that he was "getting the facts first from both parties" before commenting further.

"I plan to find out accurately what transpired, and go from there," Goodwin said via text.

Barnes, who attended UCLA, signed a two-year, $3.6 million contract with the Lakers in July.

DARRELLE REVIS ENDS HOLDOUT AGREES TO DEAL WITH JETS!

Darrelle Revis and the New York Jetsagreed to a new contract Sunday night, ending the All-Pro cornerback's holdout a week before the season opener.

The team announced the agreement in principle early Monday morning, but released no contract terms.

Revis was flying from his home in South Florida to New Jersey on Monday, and meeting with the team, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the negotiations were supposed to remain confidential, said it's a short-term deal with guaranteed money - a sticking point in the negotiations - but the exact terms were not immediately available.

The contract could be signed as early as Monday, getting Revis back on the field in time for the opener next Monday night against Baltimore at home.

Revis, who made no public statements about the negotiations since minicamp in June, used his Twitter account to thank his family and agents, Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod.

"To my family, neil, & john I love u guys I'm comin home baby!!!" Revis wrote. "Revis Island LET'S GO."

Both owner Woody Johnson and coach Rex Ryan met with Revis over the weekend to try to help get a deal done, the person told the AP. Ryan's inclusion in the meeting was first reported by the Daily News on Sunday night. Ryan was scheduled to have a conference call with reporters Saturday night to discuss the Jets' roster cutdown, but a team spokesman said Ryan was unavailable because he was at an "appointment."

That turned out to be a visit with the man whom Ryan has repeatedly called the best cornerback in the NFL.

Revis' holdout began Aug. 1, when the team reported for training camp in Cortland. He was scheduled to make $1 million in the fourth year of his six-year rookie deal, but has said he wants to become the league's highest-paid cornerback.
